Winter Blues Skin Regimen
Winter is upon us, and I don't know about you, it has been wrecking havoc on my face! I have generally dry skin, but in cold weather it tends to get scaly and oily in my t-zone area, while the rest of my face is normal. Also I will break out occasionally which leaves lovely dark spots. I noticed these changes have been happening more recently, so I thought maybe this would be a good time to start a skincare regimen and stick to it. This is feat considering I've spent most of my life using whatever soap and lotion available on my face (not the greatest "regimen" - don't judge me). As I've gotten older my skin has decidedly protested my lack of care and has started acting up. In an attempt to make peace with my skin and after taking notes on what works and what doesn't this is what I think will work for me.
- Exfoliate - Right now I am using eHoney skin's Goddess Glow Cleaning Scrub daily until the rough patches are gone. I love this product because it provides a light but powerful exfoliation . My skin definitely feels smoother and softer after I've used it.
- Moisturize - I've gone through many moisturizers and while they are pretty good, the shine in my T-zone continues to persist after I use them. The Sukin Super Greens Nutrient Rich Facial Moisturiser I recently bought from TJMaxx seems to be combating that excess oil. It absorbs quickly, and combined with the exfoliating leaves minimal shine.
- Toning - I keep it simple with this. I use Thayer's Alcohol-free Witch Hazel all over or T.N. Dickinson's astringent on any breakouts. I do have a mixture of organic rose water, Thayer's Cucumber Aloe Witch Hazel, Dr. Bonner's Rose Water Toner (discontinued but found it here), and a couple of drops of tea tree oil that I use as a toner and a facial mist. There was no particular measuring involved, they were all close to being done so I put them all together and it works!
- Cleanse - Now although I do this before everything else, I haven't found a facial cleanser I'm loving yet. The two that are currently on trial are by the same brand - Andalou Natural Fruit Stem Cell Science - in Citrus Kombucha and Meyer Lemon. Also I will use cocokind Organic Facial Cleansing Oil at night. I love cleansing oils by the way. My skin always feels so soft afterward.
I will evaluate and tweak as necessary but the regimen will definitely change for spring and summer. I will post in a couple of weeks to update in how it is working out so far! Until next time.
